Gazeley lays the cornerstone to celebrate the start of works for Iron Mountain Germany’s new data storage centre

Frankfurt: The cornerstone for a new Iron Mountain archive centre has been laid at Magna Park Rhein-Main, near Butzbach. Gazeley, global provider of sustainable logistics, will develop the new 7,500 sq m facility to support Iron Mountain’s operations in Germany. More than 50 guests from the municipality, along with partners and representatives from the economic sector, gathered for the official event to celebrate the start of the structural works.

The ceremony itself was conducted by Ingo Steves, Managing Director, Gazeley Germany GmbH, Hans-Günter Börgmann, Managing Director of Iron Mountain Deutschland GmbH, and the mayors of both neighbouring communities.

Work commenced on the 16,000 sq m (172,000 sq ft) plot of land at Gazeley’s Magna Park Rhein-Main in September 2009 and will be completed by April 2010. The 18m high archive centre will be among Iron Mountain’s biggest and most technologically sophisticated, handling documents for customers from the Rhine-Main area.

Gazeley supports Iron Mountain in the supply of data storage centres under a worldwide partnership agreement. The overall project, including the long-term lease, has already been sold to UK investor Marshgate for their closed-end fund. Additionally, Gazeley also helped secure interim and final project financing through German “Landesbank Berlin”.

Ingo Steves, Gazeley country director for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, said: “This is a great opportunity to demonstrate that Gazeley has the capability to cover the full scope of project development, from planning phase to construction and turn-key handover, including financing and investment.”
