Developer secures another site in strategic midlands
Global provider of sustainable logistics space, Gazeley, has agreed the purchase of a site in Meir, Stoke-on-Trent. Gazeley has acquired the 21.26 acres from Johnson Matthey PLC, a leading advanced materials technology and chemicals company.
Adjacent to the A50 and within easy reach of the A520, the new site is strategically located in the logistics ‘Golden Triangle’. This acquisition is the latest addition to Gazeley’s growing and successful portfolio of sites in the key logistics location that is the Midlands.
With sites already in operation in Tamworth and Rugeley, plus new acquisitions at Crick and Chatterley Valley at Newcastle-under-Lyme, the site at Meir will be another example of Gazeley’s investment in the regeneration of the Midlands. A former industrial site, the developer hopes to submit an early planning application for distribution use, which will undoubtably lead to job creation for the local community.
Nigel Dolan, Development Manager for Gazeley, comments, “This is another significant acquisition for us and further enhances our offer in the Midlands, the heart of the UK’s logistics network.
“There is a significant amount of ongoing development within Staffordshire, and we are delighted to bring our responsible and sustainable approach to development, to the three most important schemes in this sector.”
Following Gazeley’s work at the nearby Chatterley Valley development, which is leading the sector for commitment to sustainability, it is proposed that the Meir site will incorporate a number of environmental measures. These will include rain water harvesting and recycling, energy efficient lighting, solar panels, low water use appliances and FSC approved timber, all provided as standard by Gazeley. As well as reducing the environmental impact of the development, Gazeley’s sustainable design concept will also deliver significant annual operating cost savings for all occupiers at the site through reduced energy consumption.
Johnson Matthey PLC was advised by CBRE in this deal. Gazeley was unrepresented.
